Maryn + Jack 🖤

Hey Butter friends,

Coming to you live from the office today. I’ve been deep in spring menu edits and prepping for our early spring weddings — and I just had to pause and tell you about the wedding we catered for Maryn + Jack last weekend.

From the very first phone call with Maryn and her mom, I knew they were my kind of people. So down to earth. So easy to talk to. Just genuinely kind humans. And truly — with all the kick-butt caterers we have here in Kansas City — the fact that they chose us means the world. Total dream clients.

We landed on our charcuterie flat lay + two app package, which I absolutely love. We have quite a few of these coming up this spring and summer, and they’re just perfect for cocktail hour. A little cheese, a little bite of this, a little something sweet — it’s effortless but still feels elevated.

One of the reasons we love flat lays is that they don’t require us to stay and “service” the table. There’s no two-plus hours of staffing, which is such a win for both us and the client. We can focus on creating something beautiful, and they don’t have to add full-service costs to their budget. Everyone wins.

I see so many “viral” flat lay methods online, and I’ll just say — Mom and I came up with something better. 😉

In the kitchen, we lay butcher paper down on our XL sheet pans and build the entire flat lay right there. Then we snap lids onto the pans (game changer). When we arrive at the event, we lay fresh butcher paper on the table and simply slide everything into place. A quick restyle, a little fluffing from travel shifts, and tada — magic.

Since we don’t stay onsite for flat lays, we work closely with clients on the vessels they’ll need for their passed or stationary apps. Maryn made that part seamless. She was so responsive and organized, and I felt completely confident that when our team arrived, everything would be exactly where it needed to be for a beautiful setup.

For their two apps, they chose our chicken + waffle skewers and a bruschetta bar — which I love. Such a fun mix of savory and fresh.

The chicken + waffle skewers are always a crowd favorite. They feel a little playful but still elevated, and they’re so easy for guests to grab during cocktail hour.

And the bruschetta bar? It turned out SO good. Bright tomatoes, fresh basil, all the toppings layered and styled so guests could build their perfect bite. It added so much color to the space and photographed beautifully against all that glass at the venue. Simple, fresh, and just really well done.

Honestly, it was one of those setups where you step back and think, “Yep. This is exactly why we do this.”

I may

I may be biased… but our bruschetta is so, so good.

I’m the type of girl who could sit in a booth somewhere, order bruschetta and a crisp Diet Coke, and be perfectly content for hours. That’s my ideal afternoon. Truly.

And I will always prefer the fresh version — like ours — over the roasted or cooked tomato versions. I love when it’s bright and juicy and tastes like actual tomatoes, fresh basil, good olive oil, a little salt. Simple, clean, and so satisfying.

There’s just something about that first bite on toasted bread that feels classic and a little nostalgic. It never misses.

The venue was The Glasshouse at RiverOaks, and oh. my. goodness. It is stunning. All that glass, the clean lines, the natural light — it’s the kind of place where you don’t even need a filter for photos. I heard this was only around their fourth wedding, so it’s still fairly new, but everything ran so smoothly. If you’re touring venues, definitely add it to your list.

Paige Smith Photography was so great- the gallery was back in like 2 days! Unreal. We took some pics but obviously hers were stunning. For sure recommend her!

I also got to work with Kristi from What Matters Most- she was the lead coordinator and made everything so smooth. Her attention to detail and great communication made the experience 10/10. Kristi if your reading this- we need to go grab some apps one night soon. :)

This is one of those projects I’m genuinely a little sad to close out — just because working with Maryn and her sweet mama, Lindsey, was such a joy.

We aren't heavily focused on weddings this year. Our focus is more so on corporate and branding events but we do have some more coming soon, and I can’t wait to share them with you. 💛
